MEGAPOOL Heat Exchanger

Installing a heat exchanger is a cost-effective and efficient way to heat your pool and spa water. Heat exchangers use indirect heating from a central heating system (such as a boiler, solar panel or heat pump). Thus, if your house is already equipped with a boiler, you can use the same one for heating your pool and spa water by installing a heat exchanger. MEGAPOOL shell and tube heat exchangers are made of steel. Features of our heat exchangers include high efficiency, corrosion resistance, easy cleaning and reasonable price.

Shell and tube heat exchangers consist of a number of tubes mounted inside a cylindrical shell. The boiler hot water flows through the pipes and the pool water flows over the outside of the tubes. Heat is transferred through the pipe wall from a fluid with higher temperature (boiler hot water) to a fluid with lower temperature (pool water). As a result, the water returning to the boiler loses its heat and, conversely, the temperature of the water returning to the pool increases. Shell and tube heat exchangers are a better choice for pool and spa heating systems as plate heat exchangers are more susceptible to scaling and cause high pressure drop in the system.

Experience has shown that stainless steel is a suitable choice of material for pool and spa heat exchangers as it is extremely durable and highly resistant to corrosion and rust. It also shows good thermal conductivity and withstands high pressure and heat. Therefore, the shell, tubes, bolts and nuts of the MEGAPOOL exchangers are made entirely of 304 stainless steel. The 316 stainless steel exchanger can also be custom-built for salt water pools. Steel heat exchangers are smaller and lighter than copper ones, making them easier to transport and install.

Scaling increases pressure drop and, by insulating the heat transfer surface, it prevents efficient heat transfer. Therefore, one of the basic criteria in choosing a heat exchanger is how easily it can be disassembled for cleaning shell and tubes. MEGAPOOL heat exchangers are mated using flange joints. Therefore, the shell and tubes of the exchanger can be easily acid-washed to remove scale by unscrewing a few bolts and nuts. It is important to note that welded heat exchangers take up more space, are heavier, and cause a high pressure drop in the system than flanged heat exchangers with the same power.

MEGAPOOL heat exchangers are available from 20 to 200 kW. (Exchangers with higher capacity can be custom-made).
